Plans for Askuala
Askuala is an early-stage, self-funded project. The vision is much bigger than what exists today. Here's where we're going — and what's currently blocking us.
A Note on Funding
Many of the features below require ongoing server costs, API fees, and significant engineering time. Right now, Askuala has no funding or revenue. Until the project is supported, these features will remain on the roadmap. If you'd like to support the project, reach out at habte.co.
Database Backend & Cloud Sync
Currently, all your data lives in your browser's localStorage. The goal is to migrate to a proper database (e.g., Supabase or Firebase) so your progress syncs across all your devices. This would also enable data recovery if your local storage is cleared.
Blocker: Requires ongoing server costs and infrastructure setup.
Authentication & User Accounts
Once a database is in place, students will be able to create accounts with email or phone. This makes it possible to access your progress from any device, share results, and protect your data long-term.
Blocker: Depends on Database Backend milestone.
AI-Personalized Study Plans
Instead of a fixed month-by-month schedule, an AI layer would assess a student's starting knowledge, available study time, and weak areas to generate a fully personalized preparation plan. Think of it like a smart study coach.
Blocker: Requires auth + database + AI API costs. No timeline yet.
Full Localization (Amharic, Tigrigna, Oromigna)
The app interface and study content will be fully translated into Ethiopia's major languages. The language switcher UI is already built — only the translation content and routing are pending.
Blocker: Requires translation resources and contributors.
More Study Programs
We are actively building out study plans for more Ethiopian licensing programs — including Medicine (MeLEE), Pharmacy, Civil Engineering, and more. Programs currently marked 'Coming Soon' are in active development.
Practice Questions & Mock Exams
A question bank tied to each month's topics, allowing students to test their knowledge with timed mock exams. Results would feed back into the progress tracker to highlight weak areas.
Blocker: Requires content licensing or community contributions.
Offline-First Architecture Improvements
Improving the service worker strategy to make the entire app — not just individual downloaded programs — work fully offline, including navigation and progress syncing when back online.
For now — it's free, it works, and it's offline-ready.
Use Askuala as it is today and let's get you through your exam.
